Cannabis Packaging Design

Featured image for “Cannabis Packaging Design”

I’m super excited to see how this new line of boxes turn out from the printer. Using a macro photo of the cannabis at the client’s legal recreational cannabis farm in Oregon—which shows the “crystals” on the marijuana (also known as trichomes)—I added the blue colorway in Photoshop for a unique packaging element. I then imported the custom shape of the dieline used for the box into Photoshop (the dieline was supplied as a vector file from the company that makes and prints the boxes), where I then created a separate channel of the shape’s outline. I then used this channel to isolate the exact shape of the dieline (the box as it would look flattened) and then saved the entire file as a PSD file, which I imported into Adobe Illustrator. From there, I used the align tool to align the shape’s top and left edge to the default bleed lines of the custom dieline shape, then erased the bleed lines, which resulted in this beautiful custom shape that fits pixel-perfect into the dieline template. Can’t wait to show you all the finished printed boxes once they’re done!
